Wedding Accessories in Nairobi: A Practical Shopping and Budget Checklist

Plan your wedding look with Trina Shoppy's Nairobi checklist for gowns, suits, shirts, shoes, rings, hats, fascinators, ring boxes and ceremony placards.

A wedding shopping checklist should help you avoid missed essentials, repeated purchases and last-minute surprises. It should not imply that every couple needs every accessory. Start with the ceremony requirements, your chosen outfits and the budget you can actually afford.

Separate essentials from optional details

Make three lists: required for your ceremony, needed to complete your outfits, and optional decoration. Confirm ceremony requirements with the officiant or organiser. Hats, fascinators, extra jewellery and “Here Comes the Bride” placards are choices, not universal necessities.

  • Bridal outfit: chosen dress or gown, suitable underlayers where needed, shoes, and any veil or headwear you have decided to use.
  • Groom’s outfit: suit or other agreed attire, shirt, shoes, socks, and a tie, bow tie or belt if the outfit requires them.
  • Rings and handover: any rings needed for the ceremony, correct sizes, a secure container and the person responsible for bringing them.
  • Personal essentials: a small bag or agreed place for a phone, tissues and necessary personal items.
  • Optional ceremony details: placards, decorative ring boxes and coordinated accessories only where wanted and within budget.

Create an order sheet, not just a wish list

For each item record: wearer or user, size, colour, quantity, seller, written quote, extra charges, deposit or amount paid, expected ready date, final fitting date and the person collecting it. Add a status column: researching, quoted, ordered, received or checked.

Two people buying the same accessory independently can waste money. Assign one person to reconcile the list, while each wearer confirms their own fit.

Build the budget from current quotes

Do not treat old catalogue estimates as today’s prices. Ask for a current quote that identifies the exact item, material, size, quantity, delivery charge and any alteration costs. Confirm what is included: a “three-piece suit” and a complete outfit with shirt and shoes are not the same purchase.

Illustrative example, not product prices: suppose quoted items total KSh 25,000, alterations KSh 2,000 and delivery KSh 1,000. The committed cost is KSh 28,000. With a maximum budget of KSh 30,000, you have KSh 2,000 remaining for unexpected costs. If the total exceeds your limit, reduce optional purchases or reuse suitable items rather than hiding the extra charges.

Schedule checks backwards from the wedding

Record the wedding date and agree actual lead times with each seller before paying. Allow time after receipt for fitting, corrections and a complete-outfit check. Imported, custom-made and altered items may have different timelines; do not assume a standard number of days applies to all of them.

Try the outfit with the intended shoes and underlayers. Test sitting, walking and normal movement. Confirm the final trouser or gown length with the footwear you will actually use.

Inspect before the final day

  • Count every piece and compare it with the order confirmation.
  • Check stitching, buttons, fastenings, zips and visible marks.
  • Check ring size and any engraving against the order.
  • Confirm shoe fit by trying both shoes and walking.
  • Test headwear with the planned hairstyle and fastening.
  • Check placard wording and arrange safe handling if children will carry it.

Report a problem promptly and keep the receipt and written correspondence. Understand the applicable return or correction terms before ordering, especially for personalised or altered goods.

Pack and assign responsibility

Protect a hat or fascinator in a firm box with enough space for its shape. Keep shoes separate from clean clothing and small accessories in labelled pouches. Decide who carries the rings and any ceremony props. Do not leave these responsibilities as assumptions.

Choose colour coordination only after the basics

Once fit, availability and budget work, compare colour and detail. One shared accent can connect the couple’s outfits without matching every accessory. View fabric and accessories in similar lighting where possible; screen colours are not a dependable substitute for checking the actual shade.

For choosing between options, read our accessory comparison guide. For outfit coordination, use the wedding style guide.
